Bob Roche lived just south of Doraville over 9 years before making his home in Northwoods in May 2005.
He is proud to be a graduate of Doraville's first Citizen's Police Academy class, and is a founding board member of the Kiwanis Club of Doraville.
Last year, Bob was drafted to run for Georgia State House against a heavily funded, two-term incumbent. With no campaign experience and very little money, Bob organized a campaign in just a few weeks. Despite being outspent at least 6 to 1, Bob's campaign exceeded all expectations, receiving 41% of the vote in the general election. Bob was endorsed by the AJC as well as several organizations and Congressman Hank Johnson.
Bob is not a career politician. He is running because he believes, like most people, that too many elected officials seem preoccupied with getting and keeping power instead of working for the people who elected them. Doraville needs progress, not politics.
Bob has worked over 28 years in consulting as well as management and director-level positions in business and information technology. He is a small businessman, owner of a small consulting practice. In his current assignment as a solutions architect at AT&T, Bob works with people from diverse groups such as marketing, customer service and senior management to refine their goals and devise and implement solutions for new products and services.
In his last post as Director of Information Technology, Bob consolidated several nationwide departments into a single organization on a very limited budget in a little over six months.
Here are a couple of comments from Bob's superiors when he worked at Oracle Corporation:
"Bob... introduced into the process several automation tasks, that minimized the need for human intervention in many key areas of the process, which improved turnaround time and efficiency... (Bob A, Oracle Senior Project Director)
[Bob] Understood immediately the need to move to a “self service” state for configuration management. Effective communication of vision and activities to address migration plan... Strength in identifying areas for process improvement and establishing plans to address. (Rob W, Oracle Project Release Manager)
While in Florida, Bob worked for a municipal accounting software company with clients such as Marietta and Thousand Oaks, California.
He comes from a military family, so he has lived all over the United States. "For someone who moved around as much as I did", says Bob, "it's great to settle down in a community like Doraville. This area has everything. A vital and diverse population, warm weather, cultural activities, and people who look out for each other. It's not perfect, but it's a great place to live."
Bob is a Viet Nam Era veteran, receiving an Honorable Discharge from the US Air Force.
Bob enjoys flying helicopters (he has a commercial pilot license), scuba diving, riding his treasured Harley, occasional visits to the pistol range, and looking after his large saltwater aquarium.
Bob Roche believes "It is every citizen's duty to give something back to the community when they can. It may take a lot of time and effort, but the opportunity to make a real difference is worth the sacrifice."
You, too can make a real difference in Doraville's future.
